From the President

Being the farthest northern synagogue we understand even more than most the importance of community. You choosing to be part of ours enriches our community, Fairbanks, and the Jewish community as a whole. Whether you’re only stationed here a couple years, are passing through, recently moved, or been here your whole life we hope to welcome you here.

Becoming a member and paying dues may seem like a large commitment but its those commitments that keep us able to be the light of the north we work so hard to be. Your dues and membership pay for our rabbinical presence, for the programming we offer, and so much more than that.

We do not, however, bar membership based on the ability to pay, and if you cannot pay full dues we can and will accommodate you where you’re at.

It should also be said, in the immortal (and adjusted here) works of President John F. Kennedy: “Ask not what your congregation can do for you, ask what you can do for your congregation.”

We all have time, treasure, and talent to varying degrees at different times. Membership goes beyond dues, because sometimes membership is simply showing up and giving your time and your talents. Whether that’s leading services, volunteering for Miracle of Lights, holding a community dinner, or even just stopping by to say hi, community is sometimes just being there for each other.

Regardless of what you can give we know there is a space here for you here with us at Or HaTzafon.

B’Shalom,

Aviv Snowberry
Board President
